Who This Page Is For
This page is for families and professionals moving their furniture from Dammam, Al Khobar, Dhahran or anywhere else in the Eastern Province to Riyadh or Al Kharj, and for those moving the other way, from Riyadh back to the Eastern Province. It is a long-distance move, very different from a local move or a short trip between neighbouring Eastern Province cities, so packing, loading and scheduling are planned differently.
If you are heading to Jeddah, Qassim, the south or another region, the overview of every route is on our intercity movers across Saudi Arabia page. Here we focus only on the Dammam to Riyadh corridor.
Distance and Timing: What to Expect
The highway distance between Dammam and Riyadh is roughly 400 to 450 km depending on the two districts. A loaded truck travels slower than a car and needs rest stops, so in practice we split the move into three stages:
- Preparation day in the Eastern Province: dismantling, packing and loading. For small flats this can be the same day as departure; for villas and large homes it is usually a separate day.
- The drive: the truck runs the Dammam to Riyadh highway, and we agree in advance whether it arrives the same evening or the next morning.
- Delivery day in Riyadh or Al Kharj: unloading, reassembly and placing items room by room.
Most moves are delivered within 24 to 48 hours of loading. The exact timing depends on volume, when you receive the keys to the new home, and the access hours allowed by the building or compound.
Planning Table: Dammam to Riyadh by Home Size
| Home type | Preparation in the Eastern Province | Arrival and reassembly | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single room or a few items | A few hours | Usually the next day | Send photos so we can size the vehicle |
| 2 to 3 bedroom apartment | One day | Within 24 to 48 hours | We need the lift size at both buildings |
| Large apartment or full floor | One day with a larger crew | Within 24 to 48 hours | May need more than one truck |
| Full villa | One or two days | A dedicated unloading and assembly day | We prefer a photo or video survey before quoting |
This table is a planning guide only; we confirm your dates in writing on WhatsApp once we have the details.
Why Packing for Riyadh Differs From a Local Move
On a move inside Dammam, furniture spends less than an hour in the truck. On the Riyadh run it spends hours on the highway with constant vibration and high heat, especially in summer. So we step up the protection:
- Wood and wardrobes: corner and panel protection, with doors and drawers secured so they cannot open on the road.
- Appliances and TVs: each item wrapped separately, and nothing heavy stacked on screens.
- Glass and kitchenware: divided cartons, every piece wrapped individually, and boxes marked fragile with an arrow showing which way is up.
- Mattresses and sofas: fully covered against dust, which is more likely on a long desert highway.
- Loading: heavy items low and toward the front of the box, the load strapped down, and every carton numbered by its room in the new home.
Arriving in Riyadh: What We Need to Know in Advance
Riyadh is a very large city, and crossing it can take as long as a short trip between Eastern Province cities. "Riyadh" alone is not enough; we need a map pin for the new home. Some practical notes by area:
North Riyadh (for example Al Malqa, Al Narjis, Al Yasmin and Hittin)
Newer districts with villas, duplexes and new apartment buildings. Streets are usually wide, but some new buildings require a lift booking or an agreed unloading time with the owner or building guard.
Central Riyadh (for example Al Olaya and Al Sulaimaniyah)
Towers and mixed residential and commercial buildings, with heavier traffic during working hours. We time the arrival away from peak hours where possible and confirm where the truck can park before it arrives.
East Riyadh (for example Al Rawdah and Al Naseem)
A mix of houses, villas and older buildings, some without lifts. We bring crew for the stairs and dismantle large pieces before carrying them up.
Large cities may restrict truck movement at certain times, so we agree the arrival time with you in advance rather than leaving the truck waiting at the city entrance.
Moving From the Eastern Province to Al Kharj
Al Kharj lies south of Riyadh. We handle moves there from Dammam, Al Khobar and the rest of the Eastern Province with the same plan: preparation and loading in the Eastern Province, a slightly longer drive than the Riyadh run, then unloading and reassembly in Al Kharj. What we need from you:
- A map pin for the home in Al Kharj, as some districts and housing schemes are far from the town centre.
- The home type (villa, apartment or traditional house), the number of floors and whether there is a lift.
- Whether the home will be ready on arrival day, or whether you need the furniture stored for a while.
Please note: our service is moving between the Eastern Province and Al Kharj or Riyadh in either direction, not local moves between districts inside Al Kharj.
Riyadh to Dammam: Moving in the Other Direction
Many families relocate from Riyadh to Dammam, Al Khobar or Dhahran for work. We offer the same service in reverse: we reach your Riyadh address at the agreed time, dismantle, pack and load, then deliver and reassemble in the Eastern Province. Because the job starts in Riyadh, we need the details early to schedule the crew and truck.
Once you arrive, these guides cover your new city: movers in Dammam by district, movers in Al Khobar and movers in Dhahran.
What Affects the Cost of Moving From Dammam to Riyadh?
We do not publish a fixed price because the real figure depends on your home. The main factors are:
- Volume and number of trucks: the biggest factor on long routes, because every extra truck means another full trip.
- Packing level: full packing of everything, or protection for fragile items only.
- Dismantling and reassembly: bedrooms, wardrobes, kitchens and air conditioners at both ends.
- Floors and lifts at the old and new homes.
- Waiting or storage: if the new home is not ready on arrival day.
Send us photos of the rooms and both locations on WhatsApp and we will reply with a clear written quote before you book. If you need to keep some furniture in the Eastern Province before travelling, see furniture storage.
Checklist Before Moving to Riyadh
- Pack an essentials bag for two days (clothes, medicines, chargers, important papers) and keep it with you, not in the truck.
- Switch off and dry the fridge and freezer a full day before the move.
- Get the keys to the new home, or the owner's or guard's number, before arrival day.
- Tell building management at both ends when you need the lift and where the truck will park.
- Photograph valuable appliances before packing, and keep jewellery, cash and documents with you.
- Decide which room each carton belongs to so the crew can place it straight away.
