Is your kitchen worth moving?
Not every kitchen should move. Ask three questions first: do you own the kitchen, or does it belong to the rented flat? Is the new kitchen space close in size and layout to the old one? Are the cabinets in good enough condition to survive being taken apart? If the answers are yes, moving the kitchen usually costs less than buying new. If the new space is very different — longer, shorter, or with the window and plumbing points elsewhere — you might move only some units and reuse them in a store room, annex or outdoor kitchen.
This page is about the cabinets themselves. For packing crockery, glassware and small appliances, see kitchen packing and moving.
How we handle each kitchen type
Wooden and MDF kitchens
The most common type in Eastern Province flats and villas. We remove doors and drawers first, then worktops, then wall units, and base units last. Every cabinet gets a number and a quick sketch of its position, and hinges and screws go into bags marked with the same number.
Aluminium kitchens
Light, but the corners and doors bend easily under pressure. We wrap them in cardboard with corner guards and load them upright with nothing stacked on top.
Modular flat-pack kitchens
Designed to come apart and go back together, these are the quickest and lowest-risk to move.
Marble and granite worktops
Stone worktops are heavy and can crack at the joints, and they are usually cut to the old layout, the sink and the hob. We remove them carefully and transport them on edge with protected corners. Be realistic, though: if the new kitchen has different dimensions, the top may need cutting or adjusting by a stone workshop — that is not part of our work.
Important: disconnecting and reconnecting water, gas and electrics must be done by a qualified plumber or electrician arranged by you. We start dismantling only once everything is safely disconnected.
On the day

Kitchen work is usually part of a full house move, often together with appliance moving for the fridge, cooker and washing machine.
When kitchens typically move
- When moving from an apartment to a villa and reusing the old kitchen in the annex.
- During home renovation, when the kitchen is removed and refitted later.
- At the end of a lease, if the tenant owns the kitchen.
