Where these homes are
Most Eastern Province cities have older districts of one- or two-storey traditional houses – parts of old central Dammam such as Al Adamah, Al Khobar Al Shamaliyah, the older quarters of Qatif, central Hofuf in Al Ahsa, and Jubail Al Balad. Many are family homes that several households lived in over the years and are now moving to a modern apartment or villa. For old Jubail specifically, see movers in Jubail Al Balad.
Four challenges and how we handle them
1. Narrow streets and lanes
If a full-size truck cannot enter the street, we park at the nearest workable point and carry items to it, or shuttle them with a smaller vehicle that can reach the door. That is why we ask for a photo of the street from its entrance and a map pin. For longer shuttles we use a dyna truck.
2. Tight internal staircases
Stairs in older homes are often narrow with sharp turns and sometimes no proper handrail. Wardrobes and large sofas are dismantled before coming down, and walls and steps are padded with blankets.
3. Rooftop rooms and store rooms
Many traditional houses have a rooftop room or a store packed with old items. Sort it before moving day – move, donate or discard – so you are not paying to move things you will never use.
4. Old doors and entrances
Doors in older houses are sometimes narrower than modern ones. We measure doors and decide in advance what needs dismantling. We do not use external hoists, so everything goes through doors and stairs.
The family home: items with special value
Leaving an old family home usually means pieces with sentimental value: old chests, mirrors and frames, brass and copper ware, or traditional wooden items. These need separate wrapping and sometimes a custom carton. Tell us about them in advance, and see luxury furniture and antique movers for valuable pieces.
Tip: if several family members are taking items to different homes, mark cartons with a colour or name per household, and we can arrange delivery to more than one address on the same day where possible.
From a traditional house to a modern flat or villa
Moving from a house with large rooms to an apartment often means some furniture will not fit. Photograph or measure the new rooms before the move, and leave or sell surplus pieces. If the new flat is on a high floor, read moving without a lift; for general ideas on changing home size, see apartment to villa moves.
