What is a dyna, and what should you check?
In Saudi Arabia a “dyna” is a medium-duty truck widely used for small and mid-sized apartment moves and single items, within a city or between Eastern Province cities. The name matters less than three questions: Is the box closed? Does it come with a crew who can dismantle and load? Is it big enough to do the job in one trip?
At Dar Al Hana we send the vehicle with a team and choose its size after seeing photos of your items – rather than you hiring a dyna and finding out on the day that it is too small.
When is a dyna enough, and when do you need a larger truck?
| Situation | Usually the best fit |
|---|---|
| One room, a studio, or specific items (fridge, sofa, bedroom set) | One dyna |
| Two- or three-bedroom apartment with standard furniture | One or more dyna trips, or a larger truck in one go |
| Villa or large apartment with several majlis sets and many appliances | A large truck or several vehicles on the same day |
| Long-distance move outside the Eastern Province | A closed truck suited to highway travel |
These are rough guides – the number of cartons and the size of sofas and kitchen items change the picture a lot, which is why we ask for photos or a short video first. For very small jobs, also see small moves.
What comes with the dyna
- Loading crew: no need to find separate labourers or lift things yourself.
- Dismantling and assembly when needed: beds, wardrobes and tables taken apart and rebuilt at the new place – see furniture assembly.
- Packing: blankets and stretch film for sofas, cartons for loose items, special wrapping for glass – see furniture packing.
- Secured load: straps and padding so nothing shifts on the road.
An open dyna without cover exposes furniture to dust, sun and the occasional rain – a real issue in an Eastern Province summer. We use closed, padded vehicles.
Where we send a dyna
Within Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Qatif, Saihat, Jubail and Al Ahsa, and between them. In older neighbourhoods with narrow streets, a dyna is sometimes better than a big truck because it can get closer to the door.
Common mistakes when hiring a dyna
- Guessing the size: a small dyna for a full apartment means two trips and double the time – sometimes costing more than one right-sized truck.
- Forgetting dismantling: a bed or wardrobe that will not pass the door or lift stops the job until it is taken apart.
- Loading without wrapping: sofas rubbing against table edges and appliances cause scratches, even on a short city run.
- Ignoring building rules: some buildings restrict loading hours or require lift booking.
