Why a walk-up move is different
Many older buildings in Dammam, Khobar, Qatif and Al Ahsa have no lift, or a lift too small for a wardrobe or a large fridge. Every item then travels by hand on the stairs, which changes three things: time, crew size and how each piece is prepared.
To be clear: we do not use external hoists or window lifts. Everything goes through the stairs and normal building entrances, which is exactly why we plan disassembly before moving day.
What we check before the day
Weight is rarely the problem — dimensions are. Before confirming, we ask for photos or a short video showing:
- Stair width and the tightest point, usually the turn between floors.
- Ceiling height on the landing, because long sofas and mattresses must be tilted at the turn.
- The flat door and building entrance, including any iron gate that narrows the opening.
- Large items: wardrobes, corner sofas, big fridges, dining tables and large mirrors.
We then tell you clearly which pieces go as they are, which need dismantling, and which may not fit the stairwell at all so you can decide in advance.
Large items on stairs: how we handle them
| Item | Usual method | What we need to know |
|---|---|---|
| Wardrobe | Full disassembly of doors, shelves and frame | Sliding or hinged, number of doors |
| Bedroom set | Bed, side tables and dresser dismantled | Bed and mattress size |
| Corner sofa | Sections separated, legs removed where possible | Modular or one piece |
| Large fridge | Emptied, wrapped and carried upright with straps | Fridge size vs. stair width |
| Dining table | Legs removed or top separated | Glass or marble top |
Protecting stairs, walls and furniture
Repeated trips down a narrow stairwell are when scratches happen. We wrap furniture inside the flat — not at the truck — cover sharp wooden corners, and carry the heaviest pieces first while the crew is fresh. Cartons are kept to a sensible weight so they are safe to carry on stairs. See furniture packing for protection levels.
Time and crew size
A third-floor walk-up takes noticeably longer than the same flat with a lift: each trip takes minutes and the crew needs short breaks, especially in summer. We may send a larger crew and prefer morning starts. If both homes are walk-ups, we say so in the quote because the work effectively doubles.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Buying a new sofa or wardrobe before measuring the stairwell in the new building.
- Packing books and crockery in oversized cartons that become too heavy for stairs.
- Leaving wardrobe disassembly to the last minute without knowing its type.
- Not telling neighbours or the landlord that the stairs will be busy.

What affects the price?
The floor number on both ends, the number of large items needing disassembly, total volume, crew size, packing level and distance between the two homes. We do not quote a fixed price before seeing photos; send them on WhatsApp for a written quote.
