Why sofas need special attention
A sofa is big and heavy, yet its surface is delicate. Fabric marks and tears easily, leather scratches and reacts to heat, and the wooden frame can crack if lifted from the wrong point. The most common problem is not the truck but the door, stairs and lift: a sofa that went in before the doors were fitted, or arrived flat-packed from the factory, may not come out the same way.
This page is specifically about sofas, whether one second-hand sofa you have just bought or a full set as part of a house move. For floor seating and majlis cushions see majlis furniture movers.
First things first: measure
Before moving day we ask for three simple measurements: the narrowest door width on the route, the staircase width and where it turns, and the lift door size and depth if there is one. Add a side photo of the sofa. That tells us whether it comes out as it is, needs its legs removed, needs dismantling into sections, or must go out another way such as the yard door.
| Sofa type | What usually comes apart | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Standard two or three-seater | Legs, sometimes the arms | Usually passes standard doors when tilted |
| Corner (L-shaped) | Separate sections and metal connectors | Split into sections and connectors labelled |
| Sofa bed | Legs; mechanism strapped closed | We tie the mechanism so it cannot open in transit |
| Recliner | The back on some models | Power disconnected first if it is electric |
Wrapping: fabric is not leather
Fabric sofas get a clean plastic layer against dust and stains, then a moving blanket to protect the frame. Leather sofas are not wrapped tight in plastic for long in Eastern Province heat, because trapped heat and humidity can mark the surface; we use a blanket or cloth cover first, then an outer layer. In both cases corners and wooden legs are protected.
Cushions and small pillows go into large bags labelled with the set name so they do not get mixed with other items.
Carrying and loading the right way
- Lift from the base frame, never from the arms or back, which are the weakest points.
- On stairs the sofa is tilted with one person above and one below, and wall corners are padded.
- In the truck it usually stands on its side or lies flat depending on type, with nothing heavy placed on top.
- It is strapped so it does not rub against other items on the road.
One sofa or a full set?
Many people only need one sofa moved: a second-hand buy from another district, or a sofa from the family home to your flat. That is fine, and we suggest the most suitable option based on size and distance. If you also have a few other small pieces, our small moves page may suit you. For a full house move, sofas are part of the overall plan described on residential movers.
Common sofa moving mistakes
- Assuming it will fit because it came in, when the doors or lift were changed after delivery.
- Dragging the sofa across tiles, which damages the legs and the floor.
- Leaving a leather sofa wrapped tightly in plastic in a hot car park for hours.
- Forgetting small items hidden under seat cushions or inside a sofa bed.
Where we move sofas
We move sofas within Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Qatif, Saihat, Jubail and Al-Ahsa, between these cities, and as part of moves from the Eastern Province to other Saudi cities. For imported or high-value pieces see luxury furniture and antique movers, and for packing in general our furniture packing services.
Note: we do not offer a crane to take sofas out through balconies or windows, and we do not offer upholstery or cleaning. If a sofa cannot pass any entrance and cannot be dismantled, we will tell you honestly before booking.
