Why the majlis needs special care
Most homes in the Eastern Province have a men’s majlis and a women’s majlis, and sometimes an outdoor majlis or annex. This furniture is different from the rest of the house: long, heavy pieces, light or velvet fabrics that mark easily, floor seating made to measure for the room, and large rugs. So the main risk is not breakage but dirt, tears and deformation — and seating that no longer fits the new room. This page explains how we handle that.
For a whole-home move see residential movers.
Majlis items and how we move each
| Item | Main risk | Our method |
|---|---|---|
| Long Arabic majlis sofas | Length, weight and rubbing walls at corners | Clean plastic cover, then blankets on the ends; legs removed where possible |
| Floor seating (mattresses, back cushions, armrests) | Dirt and creasing | Large clean bags per set, numbered by wall position |
| Rugs and carpets | Dust and permanent creases | Shaken out, rolled — never folded — and wrapped |
| Serving and centre tables | Scratched tops and broken glass | Blankets for wood; cardboard and corners for glass, packed separately from the base |
| Serving sets, dallah pots and incense burners | Breakage and dents | Small reinforced cartons, each piece wrapped individually |
Seating made to measure
Much floor seating and many corner sofas are made to fit the old room. Before the move we suggest:
- Measuring the new majlis (length, width, doors and windows).
- A simple sketch of where each piece will go.
- Numbering pieces in their current order so we can lay them out quickly or suggest a layout for the new size.
If the seating is longer than the new wall, the choice is yours: split it across two rooms or store part of it — see furniture storage. Re-tailoring the upholstery itself is a job for an upholsterer and is not part of our services.
Doors and corners
A long sofa may not turn in a narrow corridor or a staircase with a bend. We ask for a photo of the majlis entrance and corridor and check whether a piece passes whole or needs its legs or back removed if detachable. We do not use external cranes or hoists, so checking in advance matters. For valuable or gilded classic furniture see luxury furniture and antique moving.
Keeping it clean
- Dust sofas and rugs the day before; dust trapped under wrapping is hard to remove later.
- A clean cover goes directly on the fabric, then the outer protection.
- In the new majlis we unwrap and arrange the pieces and take packing materials away where possible.
- If fabrics are very light-coloured, tell us and we double the inner layer.
Outdoor majlis and annex
Many homes have an outdoor majlis or an annex in the yard, where furniture takes more dust and heat. Before the move:
- Make sure outdoor seating is completely dry; moisture trapped in foam under wrapping causes smells and stains.
- Separate barbecue, coffee and incense equipment from seating and pack it in its own cartons so ash or oil does not mark fabric.
- Empty and dry any small fridge or water cooler a day ahead — see appliance moving.
- We load annex furniture separately and label it "annex" so it does not mix with the indoor majlis.
What affects the cost?
- Number of majlis rooms and pieces in each.
- Seating type: sofas, floor seating or both.
- Number of rugs and serving items.
- Floors and entrances at both homes.
- Majlis only, or part of a whole-home move, and the distance.
We do not publish fixed prices; photos of the majlis on WhatsApp are usually enough for a quote. Moving within your city? See for example local movers in Dammam.
