Heavy furniture: what sets it apart
Old pieces made of solid hardwood are far heavier than modern flat-pack furniture, and they do not always come apart easily because they are joined or fixed with old screws. So the job needs more hands and a carrying plan, not strength alone. A piece may also carry family or sentimental value that cannot be replaced, so we handle it with the greatest care.
Narrow passages and older homes
In some older districts lanes may be narrow, door frames low and stairs steep, and a large truck may not reach the door. We do not know your house until you describe it, so we ask: can the truck enter, how wide are the door and passage, how many steps before the door? If we cannot get close, we agree on a nearby loading point and a longer hand carry with a larger crew.
We do not provide cranes or exterior lifts. If a piece will not pass the door, we agree on taking it apart or on an alternative before the date.
Protecting carved timber and ornament
- We cover protruding and carved parts with soft cloth or paper before the blanket so nothing rubs them.
- We never apply tape directly to painted or aged timber, only to the cover.
- We carry without dragging on the floor and protect corners with reinforced cardboard.
- We photograph the piece before moving and record any old scratch or break so it is not confused with new damage.

Majlis and floor seating
A large majlis with cushions, floor mattresses and small tables needs ordering: floor seating is rolled and wrapped in clean bags, cushions go in boxes, and small tables and metal items travel separately. If the majlis has a cabinet for dishes, coffee pots and cups, we wrap each piece on its own. See majlis furniture movers.
Small pieces of value
Many families keep small old things: wooden boxes, mirror frames, wall clocks, copper tools and heritage vessels. These go into padded boxes with nothing heavy above them, and each piece is wrapped on its own in soft paper and then bubble wrap. Tell us ahead of any piece of special value so we can arrange the order and place it safely in the truck.
When you arrive at the new place
Before unloading, decide where the heavy pieces go and clear the passage of obstacles. Floors need care: heavy furniture can scratch or crack tiles, so we place boards or covers under heavy pieces when needed. Once a piece is placed, avoid shifting it repeatedly, which reduces wear. For floor and wall protection see protecting floors and walls during a move.
Choosing the time
We prefer the morning to avoid the midday heat on old timber, which reacts to sharp changes in temperature. In busy seasons and holidays demand rises, so book a few days ahead. To prepare the house see the moving preparation checklist, and to record your pieces see the moving inventory list.
Cost
It depends on the number and weight of pieces, the distance between truck and door, the crew needed and assembly. Send photos and the width of the door on WhatsApp 0573505121 and we reply with a clear estimate before booking, without fixed numbers in advance.
