Why dining furniture needs extra care
In many Eastern Province homes the dining set is among the most expensive furniture, and since it is often kept for guests it is usually in excellent condition. The problem is that its pieces are large and flat: any pressure or rubbing during loading leaves an obvious mark on a polished top. So we do not treat it as ordinary furniture — every piece gets its own plan.
If your table is all glass or the set has large mirrors, also see glass table and mirror moving.
How we handle each piece
The dining table
We remove the legs or base where possible and tie the bagged fittings to the table itself. Wooden tops are wrapped in a blanket, then plastic, with cardboard corners. Marble or glass tops travel upright on their edge, never flat, because a flat load can crack them in the middle. Extendable tables have their moving leaves secured before lifting.
Chairs
Upholstered chairs are wrapped in plastic to keep fabric clean, then a blanket around legs and back. We never stack chairs without separators.
Buffet and display cabinet
They must be completely empty. Glass shelves come out and are wrapped separately, glass doors are secured or removed, and mirrors get foam and cardboard. We do not move a display cabinet with the sets still inside.
Serving sets and decor
China, crystal and coffee sets from the display cabinet are wrapped piece by piece in packing paper, then placed in small divided boxes marked fragile and this-way-up. Details in kitchen packing and moving; for valuable pieces see luxury furniture and antique movers.
Tip: photograph how the display cabinet is arranged before emptying it — setting it up again in the new home becomes quick.
Quick guide by table type
| Top | How it travels | Main risk |
|---|---|---|
| Wood | Flat or upright with blankets | Scratches and corners |
| Glass | Upright on edge, foam and cardboard | Edge chips |
| Marble | Upright on edge, enough crew | Weight and mid-span cracks |
| Extendable | Moving parts secured | Leaves sliding loose |
Common mistakes that damage dining sets
- Lifting by the top: carrying an assembled table by its edges strains the joints; take the legs off first.
- Chairs on the table: chair legs mark the surface even through a thin cloth.
- Keys left in buffet doors: they snap or get lost; we bag them with the screws.
- Flat glass: large glass and marble crack under vibration, so they ride upright and strapped.
- Dragging on new floors: sliding a table over tiles or parquet scratches them; we carry it to its final spot.
Part of a full house move
The dining room usually moves with the rest of the house, alongside sofa moving, majlis furniture and bedrooms. It can also move on its own if you have bought a new home or are rearranging — see small moves. We cover Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Qatif, Jubail and Al Ahsa.
