What counts as outdoor furniture?

Many villas and houses in the Eastern Province have a fully furnished courtyard, garden or rooftop. When moving, that usually includes:

  • Garden sets in synthetic rattan, aluminium, wrought iron or wood.
  • Outdoor tables with glass or stone tops.
  • Movable umbrellas with heavy bases, and loungers.
  • Large planters and potted plants.
  • A gas or charcoal BBQ and outdoor cooking gear.
  • Swings, outdoor play sets and trampolines that can be taken apart.
  • Outdoor floor seating, cushions and courtyard mattresses.

Not included: pergolas and shades fixed in concrete, glued artificial grass and any permanent structures. These need specialist contractors before moving day. We move movable items only.

Packing by material

MaterialRisk in transitHow we wrap it
RattanScratches and frayed weave from frictionBlankets, then plastic, with nothing heavy on top
Aluminium and ironAluminium bends; iron scratches other itemsLegs and edges wrapped, kept apart from wood
Outdoor woodOften dry and cracked from the sunFully wrapped and lifted by the frame, not the arms
Glass and stone topsHeavy and breakableRemoved from the base, boxed with corner guards, carried upright
Outdoor cushions and mattressesHold dust and moistureShaken out, dried and bagged

Planters and plants

Large planters full of soil are very heavy and can crack. Remove some soil before moving day and stop watering two days before so the soil is not wet and heavy. Heat-sensitive plants go in last and come out first; in summer, on long trips, they are better in your own car. We move planters and pots, but we do not dig up trees or plants growing in the ground.

BBQ grills and gas cylinders

For safety the gas cylinder is disconnected, its valve closed, and it is transported separately as safety rules allow, or preferably by you. Clean ash and grease off the grill before moving day so it does not soil other items; we then wrap it.

Swings and outdoor play sets

Metal and wooden swings, outdoor playhouses and trampoline frames are dismantled, each part numbered and screws bagged. Ground-staked sets we can take apart; concrete-fixed ones need a specialist first. For children's rooms see kids' room movers.

Outdoor furniture is usually part of a full villa move; see villa movers in Dammam and villa movers in Khobar.

From a villa garden to an apartment balcony

A common case is a family moving from a villa with a garden to a flat with a small balcony or no outdoor space. Worth thinking about before the move:

  • Measure the new balcony or roof: a six-piece set may only have room for two pieces; the rest takes truck space for nothing.
  • Choose lighter pieces: folding chairs and small tables suit balconies; heavy stone tables suit few flats.
  • Planters on upper floors: large planters are heavy on stairs and lifts, so move smaller pots or remove most of the soil.
  • What is left: sell, donate, or store it via furniture storage if you plan to move back to a house with a garden.
