Why a child's room is different
Kids' furniture looks lighter than a master bedroom, but it needs more care to take apart and rebuild:
- Special designs: cribs with movable sides, bunk beds with ladders and guard rails, car- or house-shaped beds, and small desks with many drawers.
- Lots of small parts: screws, clips and plastic pieces that are easy to lose. One missing piece can make a bed unsafe.
- Safety after assembly: beds and wardrobes in a child's room must be completely stable, because children climb and jump.
- Routine: a child settles more easily on the first night if their room is already built and arranged.
How we handle each type of children's bed
| Bed type | Dismantling and packing | Key point |
|---|---|---|
| Baby crib | Sides and base removed; screws in a bag labelled with the bed name | The mattress is wrapped separately in plastic to stay clean |
| Bunk bed | Ladder and top rail first, then the upper bunk; parts numbered | After assembly we check the rail and ladder before handover |
| Themed bed (car, house) | Extra layer on coloured and plastic parts | Some designs need no full dismantling if they fit through doors |
| Extendable bed | Sliding parts fixed before carrying | Send us a photo so we know how it comes apart |
All screws and fittings go into numbered bags taped to the piece itself so they never mix with the master bedroom hardware. See our furniture assembly service for more.
Toys and small items
- Let your child keep a small box of favourite toys that travels with you in the car, not in the truck.
- Pack other toys by type (blocks, dolls, large toys), and wrap big items like play kitchens or playhouses.
- Put sharp or very small items in closed containers so unpacking is safe for children.
- Books and story collections go in small boxes because they are heavy.
A child's room by age
- Babies: crib, rocker, changing table and sterilising kit, all daily items, so keep them in a clearly marked first-open box.
- Pre-school: big toys, toy chests, low shelves and play mats. Packing protects coloured plastic from scratches.
- School age: a study desk, chair, books and sometimes a computer. Books go in small boxes and the computer is packed separately.
- Teenagers: closer to an adult room with a bigger bed, wardrobe and gaming devices; we treat it like a regular bedroom with care for electronics.
After assembly: stability first
We assemble the bed, wardrobe and desk and check every screw. Tall wardrobes and bookshelves may need wall anchoring for child safety; if they were anchored in your old home, tell us beforehand so we detach them carefully, and we recommend re-anchoring in the new home. We will confirm with you before moving day exactly what our work includes.

Moving day with young children
- Arrange for small children to stay with a relative or in a safe room away from walkways while we carry.
- We load the kids' rooms last so they come off first and are set up first.
- Pack a first-night bag: pyjamas, nappies, milk, medicines and the bedtime toy.
