Why fitness equipment needs special handling
Home fitness equipment is not ordinary furniture. A treadmill has a motor, a belt and an electronic console, with most of its weight at one end; lifting it by the wrong part can crack the console or bend the frame. Dumbbells and plates are small, but if they shift in the truck they scratch furniture and break glass. So we handle each item by type.
Note: we prepare, pack, move and place equipment. We do not repair or service fitness machines.
Preparation by equipment type
| Equipment | Usual preparation | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Treadmill | Fold and lock if foldable, unplug, remove the safety key, protect the console | Never lifted by the console or handrails |
| Exercise bike | Secure moving parts and protect the screen | Usually moved without disassembly |
| Weights & dumbbells | Small, strong cartons or crates | Kept away from fragile items |
| Multi-gym | Partial disassembly per the manual, cables and pulleys photographed | Photos needed before quoting |
| Massage chair | Upholstery and controls protected, enough crew to carry | Very heavy and bulky |
Treadmill: step by step
- Check the manual or the manufacturer’s website for the correct folding and locking method.
- Unplug the machine, remove the safety key and bag it with the remote, if any.
- Fold and lock foldable models so they cannot open while carried.
- Wrap the console in bubble wrap and the frame in moving blankets.
- Carry by the frame with enough people, then strap it so it cannot slide in the truck.
- Place it on level flooring in the new home; you switch it on once the connection is confirmed as per the manual.
Multi-gyms and free weights
Multi-gyms have weight stacks, cables and pulleys, and dismantling one means photographing every step. Before quoting we ask for clear photos from several angles and the model if known, then decide with you whether it moves whole or partly dismantled. Free weights go into small, sturdy cartons so no box is too heavy to carry or likely to tear, loaded low in the truck away from glass and electronics.
Equipment and stairs
A non-folding treadmill can be long and wide. In walk-up buildings or narrow stairwells we need measurements before the day — see moving without a lift, as the same stair rules apply. For fridges, washers and TVs, see appliance moving.
Choosing the spot in your new home
Decide where the equipment goes before moving day. A treadmill needs a firm, level floor, clear space behind it as the manual recommends, and a suitable socket nearby so you avoid long extension leads. If the chosen room is upstairs or small, tell us so we can check the machine fits through the door — it saves carrying a heavy item twice.
One machine or a full home
Many people only need to move a second-hand treadmill or a single machine between homes, which usually falls under small moves. As part of a full move it is planned into the load with other heavy items, and on intercity trips we pay extra attention to strapping.
What affects the price?
Type, weight and size of the equipment, whether it needs disassembly, floors and lifts at both ends, a single item vs. a full home, and distance. Send photos on WhatsApp for a written quote.
