Why many people move in winter
From around November to March temperatures drop across the Eastern Province, so crews can work through the day without heat exhaustion, and wood, leather and electronics aren't exposed to the oven-like heat inside a truck. Winter has its own challenges, though, quite different from moving in summer.
Rain and flooded streets
Rainy days are few in the Eastern Province, but rain can be heavy over a few hours, and water collects in some streets and underpasses in Dammam, Khobar and elsewhere. What we do:
- Watch the forecast: if heavy rain alerts are issued, we contact you to adjust the date or move loading to better hours.
- Cover items between door and truck: sofas, mattresses and rugs suffer most from water, so they get plastic covers on top of normal wrapping.
- Shortest exposed distance: the truck parks as close to the entrance as possible, and we carry items during breaks in the rain.
- No boxes on wet ground: not on the street, not in the building entrance.
A mattress that gets soaked dries slowly and can go mouldy inside. If any fabric item gets wet, tell us straight away and don't shut it in a closed room.
Wind and dust
Northerly winter winds can carry heavy dust, especially in Al Ahsa and open areas. On those days we close the truck doors between loads, cover electronics and mirrors well, and ask that the home's windows stay shut while we work. Large light items like glass panels and tall mirrors need at least two people in strong wind.
Morning fog and humidity
Some winter mornings bring fog on coastal and intercity roads. For intercity moves such as Dammam to Riyadh, we may delay departure a little until visibility improves; road safety comes first. Morning humidity also makes floors slippery, so we lay anti-slip protection on corridors and stairs.
After arrival: check and air out
After unloading on a rainy or humid day, don't just assemble and close the rooms. Open boxes of clothes and bedding to check they're dry, and lift mattresses off the floor to air if you notice any damp. Appliances exposed to high humidity should rest before being switched on, and the fridge in particular is best left standing for a while after a move. If you notice any wet or damaged item, photograph it and tell us the same day.
Winter or summer: a quick comparison
| Factor | Winter | Summer |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | Mild, work possible all day | High, early morning or evening preferred |
| Main risk to furniture | Water and dust | Heat inside the truck |
| Most sensitive items | Sofas, mattresses, rugs | Wood, leather, candles, electronics |
| Booking demand | Rises near mid-year school break | Rises in the summer holiday |
