Who moves to AlUla?
AlUla, in the north-west of the Kingdom, is seeing major growth in projects and jobs, so employees and families relocate there from many regions, including the Eastern Province. These moves tend to share a few features: the distance is very long (roughly 1,400 to 1,500 km depending on the road and your start point), housing in AlUla may be new, temporary or provided by the employer, and there is usually a fixed start date.
The road and the packing
The trip usually goes via Riyadh and Qassim before heading north-west, with long desert stretches. That calls for:
- Dust protection: full covers for mattresses, sofas, rugs and clothes, and tightly sealed boxes.
- Vibration protection: layered wrapping for wood and glass, and dismantled wardrobe panels secured flat.
- Load order: heaviest items low and forward, fragile pieces in the middle between soft items.
- Sectional strapping: each part of the load is strapped so nothing shifts even after a partial unload.
Housing in AlUla: what we ask
Employer-provided housing
If your housing comes with the job, ask about entry permits and what is already furnished so you do not move what you will not need. Many employees in this situation move much less than a full home.
Rented or newly built homes
Make sure power, water and keys are ready before the truck arrives. On a trip this long, last-minute rescheduling is costly for everyone.
Location and access
Some homes in AlUla are outside the busier areas and the roads to them can be less obvious, so we ask for a location pin and an entrance photo. We do not use an external hoist; large items are dismantled to pass through stairs or lifts.

Tip: on a trip this long, carry what you need for the first three days in your car. The furniture may arrive after you.
Before deciding what to move
Compare the cost of moving large pieces 1,400 km with their value. Old or inexpensive furniture may be better sold in the Eastern Province, while good bedroom sets and newer appliances are worth moving.
