When this kind of move is needed
Common situations: parents leaving a large villa for a smaller, easier apartment once the children have married; one parent moving in with a son or daughter; a retiree returning to their home city after years of work in the Eastern Province, or moving closer to children in Dammam or Khobar. In each case, the hardest part is not the move itself but deciding what goes and what stays.
Downsizing: how to decide
The new home is usually smaller, so not everything will fit. We suggest the family sit with the parents before the move and sort items into three groups:
- Moving: the familiar bedroom set, the favourite chair, sentimental pieces and what the new home actually needs.
- To the children: good furniture without a place, which can be delivered to the children’s homes the same day or later.
- Donate or sell: items no longer used.
If decisions need time, part of the furniture can go into short-term storage rather than rushing.
Moving-day order
| Order | What we do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First | Assemble the bedroom and bed in the new home | Rest is possible from day one |
| Second | Favourite chair, side table and lighting | Keeps the daily routine |
| Third | Kitchen and daily essentials | Food, drinks and medicines within reach |
| Fourth | Majlis and living room | Can be finished calmly |
| Last | Seasonal items, ornaments and photos | Arranged with the parents as they wish |
Arranging furniture as they are used to
Many older people feel at ease when their room looks as it did: the bed on the same side, the chair by the window, photos on the bedside table. We photograph the old room before dismantling and recreate the layout as far as the space allows. We also keep walkways wide and free of cartons and cables so moving around is safe.
Items of special value
Old photographs, copies of the Qur’an, old rugs, ornaments and vintage hosting sets have value beyond price. They are wrapped carefully and packed in separate, clearly marked cartons; jewellery and official documents are best kept with the family. For antiques, see luxury furniture and antique moving.
Medical beds and mobility equipment
Hospital beds, wheelchairs and mobility aids can be moved as items with suitable wrapping, but we do not install or operate medical equipment — the supplier or a specialist should handle that. Let us know in advance so we plan their place in the truck and the new room.
The family’s role on the day
- Choose one person to liaise with the crew.
- If possible, parents stay somewhere comfortable away from the noise and arrive once their room is ready.
- Prepare a small bag with medicines, clothes and daily items.
