Why clothes need their own plan
Most homes have at least one wardrobe per person. The issue isn't volume; it's creasing, dust, and finding everyday clothes after the move. Throw clothes into random bags and the family spends the first week hunting for school uniforms and work thobes. Organising before packing solves it. For the wardrobes themselves, see wardrobe movers.
Hanging clothes: thobes, abayas and suits
Thobes, abayas and formal wear crease quickly if folded. Better options:
- Keep them on hangers: group a few hangers together, tie them at the hooks, and pull a large bag up from the bottom to cover them.
- Wardrobe boxes: tall boxes with a hanging rail, good for formal and expensive clothes, supplied on request subject to availability.
- No stacking: hanging clothes should never sit under heavy boxes in the truck.
Folded and seasonal clothes
Folded clothes can travel two ways. If the wardrobe won't be dismantled and the drawers are sturdy, they may stay inside with each drawer fully wrapped. If the wardrobe will be taken apart, empty the drawers into medium boxes; very large boxes get too heavy and split.
| Type | Best method |
|---|---|
| Everyday clothes | A suitcase per person for 3–4 days |
| Winter and seasonal wear | Well-sealed boxes marked "seasonal" with the room name |
| Children's clothes | A separate box per child, plus two days of clothes in the suitcase |
| Bedding and blankets | Large bags or boxes; also useful as padding around fragile items |
Dust and humidity in the Eastern Province
On dusty days and in humid coastal cities like Dammam, Khobar and Qatif, keep clothes covered for the whole trip and don't leave open boxes in the yard or entrance before loading. If items will be stored, never pack damp or unwashed clothes; trapped moisture causes odours and stains. For storage, see furniture storage.
Write on every box: room name + whose clothes + "daily" or "seasonal". That single line saves hours of searching in the new home.
Common mistakes when moving clothes
- Black bin bags: convenient, but they tear and get mixed up with real rubbish on moving day.
- One giant box per wardrobe: hard to carry on stairs and the bottom gives way.
- Shoes mixed with clothes: bag shoes separately in their own box.
- Forgetting the washing machine: check the drum is empty and dry before it's unplugged.
- Perfume packed with clothes: perfumes and oud are wrapped separately and kept upright; one leak can ruin a whole box.
What our crew can handle
With full packing, our crew packs clothes along with the rest of the home, labels the boxes, dismantles wardrobes and reassembles them at the new address. We recommend keeping personal valuables, gold and documents with you. For the full packing service, see furniture packing, and for a general list, see the moving preparation checklist.
