What this page covers: moving TVs, smart screens and large displays, whether as part of a whole-home move or a single screen. For fridges and washers see appliance movers, and for pictures and frames see artwork and frame moving.
Why a screen needs special handling
Modern screens are very thin, and the weakest parts are the front panel and the side frame. A screen can crack from slight pressure inside a truck even when no mark shows outside, so we avoid placing anything on or beside it that presses on its surface. The first rule is that it is carried upright, not flat, because flat carrying lets the screen flex.
The original box or a substitute
If you kept the screen's original box and its inserts, use them; they were made for this. If not, we wrap the screen in layers of foam and padded blankets, fit corner protectors, and then place it in a carton or a wooden frame depending on size. Tell us the size and number of screens in advance so we bring the right materials.
Removing and refitting wall mounts
Most large screens hang on a wall mount. Before removal, photograph the rear connections, label any numbered cables, and keep screws and small parts in a clear bag marked with the room name. On arrival we refit on the new wall as far as the wall type allows, and tell you if the wall will not carry the screen and a floor stand is needed instead.
After unloading: do not switch on straight away
If the screen met a big temperature change during the move, it is better to leave it an hour or more in the room before switching on, to avoid internal condensation. After mounting, inspect the screen while off for any visible scratch, then switch it on and test ports and sound.
| Screen type | What we watch for |
|---|---|
| Wall-mounted screen | Removing the bracket, photographing connections, and refitting to suit the wall |
| Screen on a stand or table | Taking the stand off and carrying it separately from the screen |
| Very large screen | More than one person to carry, with doors and corridors opened first |
| Several screens in the home | Labelling each screen, its box and accessories |
Tip: photograph the model and size label on the back of the screen and send it to us; we then prepare the right padding the first time.
